Wei Guo, MD

Dr. Guo is a member of American Medical Association (AMA), American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), and Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians (LAFP).

Dr. Guo is the only family doctor in the US who has completed three years acupuncture training in China after five years of medical school. He is the founder of Family Medicine and Acupuncture, LLC. Which is dedicated to provide integrative continuity care for the whole patient.

Dr. Guo earned his medical degree in 1989 in China. He completed his orthopedic residency training in China and served as an orthopedic surgeon in a level I trauma center specializing in trauma, spine surgery, and sports medicine. He also trained in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), receiving his second medical degree in Acupuncture and TCM for MDs in 1997 in China. This is the highest integrative degree in medicine in China.

Dr. Guo was a visiting clinician in the Orthopedic Department at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota in 1999. Since then, he has received a California acupuncture license and joined the staff at South Baylo University (SBU) in California, serving as clinic supervisor, associate professor in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and department chair from 2000 – 2006. in 2005 he designed a curriculum of oriental medicine doctoral (OMD) program for SBU and he was the first OMD instructor in SBU.

When he passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and was certified by the Educational  Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) in 2005, Dr. Guo wanted to extend his expertise beyond orthopedics to care for the whole patient. After he completed a one-year internship in general surgery at the University of Southern California (USC) Medical Center, Los Angeles, in 2007, Dr. Guo completed his residency in Family Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Science Center School of Medicine in 2010, having trained at Ochsner Medical Center – Kenner.

He is licensed in both Louisiana and California. His specialties are Family Medicine and Acupuncture. He also has strong experience in Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation, as well as in treating Fibromyalgia, Depression, Sleep Disorders, Sexual Dysfunction, and Infertility, etc.

Dr. Guo envisions acupuncture as an integral part of medical care. He believes that by combining Eastern and Western Medicine he will provide a much higher level of care for all patients. He has over 30 years of experience in all facets of patient care and desires to be the primary care physician for the whole patient.
